DU Mourning Day Tomorrow

University of Dhaka authority has chalked out an elaborate program in observance of the Mourning Day tomorrow (Saturday- October 15) in a befitting manner.

The day is being observed as the Mourning Day since 1985 in memory of those resident and non-resident students, employees and guests killed in a building roof collapse (former Assembly House) at Jagannath Hall of the university.

The programs of the day include hoisting of black flags at all the dormitories and the principal buildings of the university, lowering of the university flag at half-mast and wearing of black badges at 6 am, bringing out a mourning procession from the foot of 'Aparajeyo Bangla' sculpture towards Jagannath Hall Memorial, placing of wreaths and observance of silence there at 7.30 am as a mark of respect to those killed in the tragedy.

Besides, a discussion will be held at the Television Room of the October Memorial Building at 8 am that will be followed by prayer sessions of Hindus, Buddhists and Christians at 9 am.

Munajat will be offered at all the dormitory mosques and the university central mosque after Asr prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of those killed in the building collapse.

An oil painting show of the victims of the tragic incident and their used items will be held while a blood donation camp will also be organized on the premises of Jagannath Hall from 10 am to 6 pm.

As part of the Mourning Day's program, a devotional song and poetry recitation session will be held at the Prayer Hall of Jagannath Hall at 6.30 pm, say a press release of the university.
